MOUNTING

Mounting means that two different materials (in our case: a print on paper and a backboard) become attached to each other with the aid of a special glue. We use a form of double-sided mounting film adhesive which is acid free, passed the Photographic Activity Test (ISO 18916) and will not discolor with age.

There are different materials to choose from, depending on what you are aiming to do with the mounted print. One of the biggest advantages of a mounted print in general is that it will not bubble up and you get a smooth and even surface.

Substrate materials

Here is a little overview of the different backboard / substrate materials. They make all sense in a special field of application.
No matter if you need the mounted print for framing reasons or a direct wall installation.

Museum board
An archival museum board is the best way to mount your prints with the highest standards in terms of conversation. They impress with their permanence, purity and resistance to acid migration, embrittlement and yellowing. This solution is ideal when you are planning to frame a larger print or frame it in combination with a mat (passe-partout).
Forex® white
Forex® is a high-quality and very fine hard resistance foam board made of PVC. These panels are available in many different colors and thicknesses. It is a very good material to use in combination with a shadow gap, floating or tray frame.
Forex® black
The black version of the Forex® boards are working really good with dark pictures or in combination with a shadow gap frame because the black edge of the panel amplifies the “floating” effect (nevertheless the white version can also create an interesting impression in this combination).
Alu-Dibond®
Aluminium composite plates are excellently combining the characteristics “light weight” and “dimensional stable”. This is the most steady variant of our substrate materials and particular becomes important when you are planning to mount a very large print with an edge size above one meter.

Wall installation

There are different types of fixtures for a wall installation. We usually recommend an aluminium subframe. This is the best and safest way to go, especially with larger formats. It also gives an extra of stability and makes the hanging quite easy. A suspension plate can also be used as a cheaper alternative.
