There are a few things you should keep in mind when you are planning to print a whole porfolio. So we tried to collect some of the most important aspects and give you a little overview below. Generally the easiest way to produce a portfolio is a simple folder with book binding screws. In this case you keep the flexibility to add new pages afterwards or change the order of your pictures depending on your client.
Preparation & creating a master
The highest quality in the inkjet printing process can be achieved with uncompromised files (e.g. TIFF) and a RGB color space (e.g. AdobeRGB or ECI-RGB). The conversion in the color space of the printer/paper happens within our special printing software. A conversion to a CMYK color space prior to that could turn out quite lossy and we would not recommend to do that. This comes down to the fact that our printers are using way more colors than only “Cyan”, “Magenta”, “Yellow” and “Black”.
So if you are planning to layout your portfolio, it is preferable to do this directly in Photoshop with guide lines and grids. You should also think about the needed space for rilling and grooving. In case of a borderless print or portfolio it is also wise to plan at least a 3 mm bleed section around your final format.
